FULL WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

Paper Making as an Art Form
Date TBA
Professor Roberto Mannino
(335€)
In this workshop we explore papermaking as an autonomous discipline in which the process of forming sheets is enriched by artistic interventions onto the sheet itself. Participants gain experience with the basic technology and methods required to produce sheets of paper, including the use of colored pastes and various other innovative techniques.
Students are guided through the making of compositions up to 50cm x 70cm in size, and produce sheets of paper suitable for drawing and/or intaglio printing.
All materials are included in the course fee.

Botanical Drawings
Date TBA
Professor Roberto Caracciolo
(160€ + est. 25€ materials)
Since antiquity, humans have drawn and studied plants: first for medical purposes, and later for their aesthetic qualities. In this workshop students improve their drawing skill and develop a better understanding of the great complexity and beauty of nature. The program includes visits to the Botanical Garden of Rome.
Participants should bring their own drawing supplies: either an A4 format sketchbook + pencil or a digital drawing device.

Primitive Photography
Date TBA
Professor Bill Pettit
(305€)
This workshop introduces students to early photographic techniques including anthotypes, cyanotypes, and simple homemade cameras. Using basic science and commonly available resources, the workshop guides students through the many ways to create images using light and natural ingredients. Between in-class exercises and simple homework assignments, students experiment with historic pigments and light sensitive emulsions and create a visual diary of their work.
The workshop is open to students of all ages and abilities. All materials are included in the course fee.

First Impressions
Date TBA
Professor Devin Kovach
(110€)
Learn the fundamentals of printmaking while exploring the vast creative possibilities of the monotype printing method, a process which entails applying printing ink to a plate and then onto paper with a press. Artists have long embraced this process for its directness and the particular visual qualities of the impressions it yields.
In this one-day immersive workshop we cover the basics of inking and printing. With these building blocks in place, students then experiment and explore, producing their own marks and textures. Each participant will come away with a series of their own one-of-a-kind monotype prints.
The printmaking studio at Temple University Rome uses non-toxic inks to ensure that students work safely. The workshop is open to students of all ages and abilities.
All materials are included in the course fee.

Painting on Paper
Date TBA
Professor Anita Guerra
(165€ + est. 50€ materials)
In this mixed level watercolor workshop, participants paint landscapes along the Tiber River or at Villa Borghese, plus still-lifes in the studio with specific references to past and present Rome. Weekly lessons include demonstrations of both conventional and contemporary watercolor methods and approaches, as well as explanations of color theory and mixing.
Some materials are not included in the course fee. A detailed list of required painting supplies will be provided to participants upon registration.
