Spotlight Series, Black History Month Edition: Boris Akeem Aka
10 February, 2020 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pmFree
Join Temple University Rome in highlighting, celebrating, and creating a space for creatives of the African Diaspora.
Boris Akeem Aka is an Ivorian artist based in Rome, graduated in Fine Arts at The American University of Rome. He is currently finishing his Master’s in Graphic Art at Tor Vergata.
Akeem Aka’s works are mostly related to words and emotions. Having traveled a lot since he was four years old and speaking four different languages gave him a particular interest in interpretation and the meaning of words. He illustrates states of mind, ways of saying, and emotional states by using people around him or people that he admires as his models. Drawing is Akeem Aka’s favorite form of visual art, but he also paints and takes photos.
Last year Akeem Aka has been exploring more into his roots and started focusing on his African artistic heritage which opened a new interesting area of research that he’s glad to have found.
Akeem Aka is a traditional artist– his daily tools are pen, ink and watercolors; he does almost everything with them and 90% of his works are made on paper or colored paper.
The Spotlight Series intends to highlight the work of artists and art professionals in a public, informal, and engaging format during an evening at Temple University Rome.
