In her current role as Associate Director at Temple Rome, Barbara is responsible for handling all day-to-day administrative operations of the campus and serves as the designee in charge when the Dean is traveling or unavailable. She works with the Dean in developing a broader vision for Temple Rome as it transitions from a study abroad program to a global campus for Temple University. Barbara creates, refines and implements all Policies and Protocols, Safety and Security Issues, Legal and Administrative Issues that arise.
As Director of the Internship and Community Engagement program, Barbara is working with an extensive network of current partners and continuously assessing those partnerships and creating new ones.
Originally from Antwerp, Belgium, Barbara received her B.A. and M.A. in Art History from the Catholic University of Leuven and held a one-year Erasmus fellowship at the University Paris IV-Sorbonne. Her Master’s thesis examined the first official catalogue of the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
Barbara received her Ph.D in Art History from the University of Zürich in 2012 and held a doctoral fellowship at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and two post-doctoral fellowships: one at the Frick Art Reference Library and one at the Academia Belgica in Rome. Her most important publication is entitled ‘Renaissance d’un médium artistique: la tapisserie en France et en Belgique au XIXe siècle’.
Barbara worked as a political advisor in The Parliament of the Brussel-Capital Region, from 2014 until 2017, and as an advisor of the state secretary cabinet in Belgian science policy, from 2017 until coming to Temple Rome.
