Fay R. Trachtenberg is the Interim Director and Acting Dean of Temple University Rome, one of the university’s premier international campuses and one of the largest and longest-standing study abroad programs in Italy.
She brings to this role 14 years of experience in Temple’s Office of University Counsel where she most recently served as Senior Associate Counsel, advising Temple’s campuses around the globe including those in the United States, Japan and Italy. Recently, she has worked on legal matters of strategic importance at Temple Rome, including the creation of its limited partnership in Italy.
In her position at Temple University Rome, Trachtenberg oversees the study abroad program including faculty hiring and development, curriculum, finance and budget, student life and recruitment, academic integrity, alumni affairs and community engagement. Founded in 1966, Temple University Rome welcomes nearly 650 students a year from over many different universities. The campus is located in the Villa Caproni building facing the Tiber River in the heart of Rome.
Prior to joining the Office of University Counsel, Trachtenberg practiced employment discrimination law for 13 years. She has been an Adjunct Professor at both Temple University Beasley School of Law and Rutgers Law School specializing in employment discrimination law. A member of both the Board and the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group, Trachtenberg mentors and advises students through her role leading the PDLG Temple University 1L Summer Fellow Program.
Trachtenberg earned a BA in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College. As an undergraduate student, she spent her junior year abroad studying Italian, architecture and art history at Trinity College’s Barbieri Center in Rome, and later participated in an Italian language immersion program at Università per Stranieri in Perugia. She also holds a Juris Doctorate from Temple University School of Law.
