Student of the week: girl sitting on ledge with Italian countryside in the background

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I’m from a military family so I have traveled a lot and I’ve moved 7 times. An interesting fact is that so far, I’ve been to 12 countries: Dubai, Qatar, Dominican Republic, Panama, the Grand Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Ireland, Mexico, England, Spain, the United States, and now Italy!

What were your thoughts about studying abroad?

I knew I loved traveling and wanted to do it while still in school. It just seemed like the perfect opportunity to get to know other places. Coming here was a toss up against the Japan campus since Temple has a presence in both places. I knew that at Rome I could travel to more places that I wanted to visit personally and there was also a psychology internship that I was really excited for, so that made my decision much easier.

Are there any challenges that you have faced so far?

The first few days it was really hard to sleep. It took me a couple of nights to realize that I was actually here. My body was in Rome but my mind was still in Philadelphia.

Tell us about some of the places that you go to unwind.

The Jelly bean room is really relaxing as well as the terrace on the roof at the Residence. It just gives you time and space to think, look at the stars and relax.

What was one thing you found peculiar that turned out to be not as bad?

For me it was the people because a lot of the times they will look at you as strangers and stare so much. I always thought that it would’ve come from a bad place but they stare because they’re curious and they just want to learn more about you and that was pleasantly surprising.

What do you hope to accomplish by the end of the semester?

I hope I do a good job on my internship. It was a bit intimidating at first but the more I move forward with it, the more excited I get and I think I will do well!
