What made you want to study abroad?

I wanted to be in a place that was different from where I grew up and experience a different culture. Being a student and studying in Rome gives me the opportunity to learn, experience and travel not only in Rome but outside it as well.

What is the coolest thing that you’ve done so far while abroad?

I went to Urquhart castle, a centuries old castle in Scotland. I explored the ruins and I got to walk on Loch Ness. It was neat to see the mountains and ridges from where I stood.

What do you like most about your classes at Temple University Rome?

I’m in a book structures class and we learn of the history of making books. In Rome specifically, it’s interesting to connect the significance between the books and history while studying in Italy. During my class, we visited the city of Fabriano, where a lot of advances in culture and book making occurred. It gave me an appreciation for bookmaking and the process to make something that could be preserved as a piece of history.

What would like to accomplish by the end of the semester here in Rome?

I want to have a conversational fluency in Italian and hopefully maintain it.

What do you hope to get out of this experience and how will it help you with your professional goals?

I want to develop a sense of boldness that comes from studying abroad. When you come to a different country, you’re thrown into a foreign culture which can be a bit intimidating and challenging, yet exciting. Personally, you learn so much about your own culture by experiencing another one. In the end, I hope this experience will free me in being willing to take more risks.

What advice would you give to students thinking about attending Temple University Rome in the future?

Explore your options and understand why you want to come here, before you come here. It helps you align your goals and understand your purpose for being in Rome.
