Promoting Cultural Immersion – Tutoring at Local Schools
Temple Rome is now in its fifth semester of the very successful and popular “Mamiani Project”, through which every semester 15-20 Temple Rome students engage weekly as English conversation tutors in 15 different classes with over 300 Italian high school students.
The program was founded by and continues to be directed by Temple Rome Italian Professor Daniela Curioso; Temple Rome and Mamiani have a memorandum of understanding together that dates back to 2012.
In collaboration with Professor Stefania Salvati, Temple Rome recently launched a new initiative at Mamiani called SPORTELLO DI INGLESE (“English Help Desk”). For this project, seven Temple students volunteer two afternoons a week to help Mamiani students who want to practice and improve their English on a one-to-one basis.
From the first day of this project, all open slots were fully booked right away, a testament to the success of the project and the relationship between Mamiani and Temple Rome!
Next up for Temple Rome and Mamiani:
“INDOVINA CHI VIENE A CENA” (“Guess who’s coming to dinner?”), through which Mamiani students’ families are encouraged to have Temple Rome students over for dinner as a sign of friendship, hospitality and cultural exchange.
The Mamiani Project has been so successful that Temple Rome will soon begin partnering with other local schools to launch similar programs.
