Temple Rome to move to new, historical location
 

Temple Rome’s new campus at Piazza di Spagna, one of the most notable landmarks in the Eternal City, will open in September 2024. 
 

This fall, Temple Rome is moving to a new, central location, establishing its new campus at Piazza di Spagna—one of the most notable landmarks in the Eternal City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site—in September 2024.

“Temple Rome is a thriving campus that we want to continue expanding,” said President Richard M. Englert. “This move further cements the university as a global destination as it continues elevating its brand and international presence.”

The move will allow for even more high-quality instruction, experiential learning and cultural immersion. The new campus provides students the unique opportunity to study in the heart of the Eternal City, adjacent to the historic Spanish Steps and in walking distance from the iconic Trevi Fountain as well as famous monuments such as the Pantheon, Villa Borghese, Villa Medici and Mausoleum of Augustus.

Renovation is underway over the next year. Facilities will include state-of-the-art classrooms, art studios and an art gallery, a science lab, a conference center, a library, and open-air terraces and a courtyard for events. Additionally, it will feature full disability access and a new 50-bed residence hall, offering a true campus experience in the heart of Rome.

“This new campus introduces even more opportunities for academic exploration and excellence,” said Provost Gregory N. Mandel. “We’ll continue providing our students a world-class education by increasing the scope of what’s available to them.”

Temple Rome began with just 20 students in 1966 and has since grown exponentially to over 700 students a year thanks to initiatives like the Rome Entry Year Program, pre-college programs, for-credit internships, an Adult Study Abroad program, and more. As one of the oldest and most prestigious U.S. university programs in Italy, it equips students to become global citizens by giving them enhanced cross-cultural, linguistic, analytical and problem-solving skills.

“Temple Rome is one of the longest-standing American programs in Italy with a history of close to 60 years,” said Emilia Zankina, dean of Temple Rome and vice provost of global engagement. “We are thrilled to start this new chapter of Temple Rome as we build on our long history and strong foundation and expand our programming serving an ever larger and more diverse group of students from a wider breadth of disciplines, as well as growing our programs for young learners, adult learners and engagement with the community.”
