Prof. Shara Wasserman is an American art historian and curator of contemporary art. She received her B.A. in Art History magna cum laude and with honors from Temple University and her M.A. in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University. Following a period at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, first as Hilla von Rebay fellow and later as Editorial Assistant, Wasserman relocated to Rome, Italy.

At Temple University Rome, she introduced her course Galleries and Studios: The Contemporary Art Scene in Rome, to offer the students a complete perspective of Rome as a city of today. Visits to museums, galleries and foundations, and to private studios and new neighborhoods, allow the students to get a deeper view of Rome and a first-hand experience with contemporary art practice.

In 1990 she established the Temple Rome Gallery of Art, a 200 sq. mt. space focused on a strong exhibition program that reflects the academic and intellectual life of the campus and its status as a study abroad program. She also coordinates and supervises the art history internships for study abroad students at Temple Rome.

In addition, Wasserman has curated numerous exhibitions in public spaces; she has organized events in Rome with the public administration; and she has curated exhibitions in the United States.
