Temple University student athletes from a variety of sports disciplines ranging from football, field hockey and soccer, to track & field and volleyball are participating in a culturally enriching mini study abroad program over Spring Break! Their week is jam-packed with a wide range of experiential adventures including guided tours of Rome’s most famous sites and monuments (Piazza di Spagna, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum, Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, Galleria Borghese and more), a pizza-making class, a private tour of Rome’s Olympic Stadium, day trips to nearby Villa D’Este, Tivoli and Florence, and wonderful meals highlighting Italy’s gastronomic excellence. Led by Dr. Amy Giddings, Chair of Temple University’s department of Sport and Recreation Management (SRM) at the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, students also took part in a course requiring them to complete papers, discussion board posts, trip portfolios and group presentations about the aspects of modern-day Italian cultural, historical influences on art, culture, sport and culinary traditions of Italy, and the impact of travel on their personal growth and development.
