Under the supervision of Temple Rome staff, students are invited to take part in a number of volunteer opportunities during their stay in the Eternal City. From helping at a soup kitchen for a shift to a semester-long commitment at a refugee center in Rome, students can find volunteer opportunities to fit their busy schedules. An info session during Orientation introduces students to the various volunteer opportunities that Temple Rome students can participate in.
The following is part of a growing list of volunteer opportunities available to students at Temple Rome:
- Soup kitchens
- Sports events
- Italian high schools
- Neighborhood cleanups
Tutoring at Local Schools
For students who will be going into the education field, or just want to gain some experience with students, Temple Rome hosts a successful and popular “Mamiani Project: Be a Tutor”, through which every semester 15-25 Temple Rome students engage weekly as English conversation tutors in 15 different classes with over 300 Italian high school students.
The program was founded by Professor Eli Goldblatt and Temple Rome Italian Professor Daniela Curioso, who has been directing it since 2012.
