Temple Rome's 60th Anniversary

Since its beginning in 1966 as a Tyler School of Art program in Rome with only 20 students, now, as we celebrate Temple Rome's 60th anniversary, it counts more than 12,000 alumni and a rich breadth of courses from all of Temple's schools and colleges providing students with a well-rounded and globally-shaped academic experience combining a strong foundation in core academic disciplines with diverse, practical, and international experiences that foster adaptability, cross-cultural understanding, and a broad worldview.

Temple Rome was originally located in the Villa Caproni along the Tiber River, but since September 2024 it is now proud to call the world-renown Spanish Steps its new home in the Eternal City at Via di San Sebastianello 16.

Today, students from any major may enroll in courses such as art history, architecture, communications, business, liberal art, public health, natural sciences, engineering and visual arts at Temple Rome and enjoy for-credit internships in a variety of areas.

On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Temple University Rome is launnching its first ever bachelor's degree programs in September 2026 in collaboration with Temple University's Fox School of Business, Klein College of Media & Communication, College of Liberal Arts, School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and College of Science and Technology. Students may now choose to spend a full four years at the Rome campus and graduate with a U.S.-accredited Temple degree enhanced by a uniquely-global perspective.

Notable past milestone include: the Temple Entry Year program, which started in 2018, that allows first-year students to begin their degree at the Rome campus for a full year before continuing at other Temple locations (Temple University's Main Campus in Philadelphia and Temple University Japan in Tokyo and now in Kyoto), an adult education program with courses and workshops (added in 2016), and the Adult Study Abroad program which launched in 2021 as a modified study abroad program for adult learners of all ages with all the same great experiential learning activities offered to Temple’s undergraduates.

Temple Rome Gallery of Art

To celebrate the 60th anniversary, the Temple Rome Gallery of Art, a popular space to experience contemporary art in Rome, will exhibit 10 by 10-centimeter works by Temple Rome alumni, faculty and local Italian artists.
