Support for Learning Italian

Temple Rome offers several initiatives for students who wish to improve their Italian or meet their local peers.

Temple Rome: Italian Language & Peer Connections

1. Italian Help Desk
Need a little extra support with Italian? The Help Desk is a relaxed, judgment-free space where you can practice conversation, review grammar, or get homework help. Open to all students taking Italian, with flexible drop-in hours (and virtual sessions available).

The TUR ITALIAN HELP DESK is a relaxed, friendly space where you can ask questions, get extra support, and build confidence with the Italian language.  Come alone or bring a friend.

2. Peer Tutoring
Want to practice with locals? Temple Rome partners with Italian university students who offer free one-on-one tutoring. They can help with conversation, classwork, and vocabulary — plus, it’s a great way to connect with peers in Rome.

Appointments are easy to book via your course’s Canvas page.  Choose a tutor according to the time slot which best suits you and send a message by SMS or WhatsApp to make your appointment. You’ll need to find a quiet spot on campus to work with your tutor. Popular choices include:

  • The Library
  • The Terrace or the Courtyard (weather permitting)
  • An empty classroom
  • If none of the above spaces are available, perhaps try a nearby café!

If you need to cancel an appointment, please inform your tutor with at least 24 hours notice. Rome is not always an easy city to commute within – don’t make your tutor waste a trip!

3. Italian Tutors in the Classroom
Faculty across disciplines can also involve Italian tutors in class. They bring cross-cultural perspectives, speak excellent English, and can enrich discussions and activities. To invite tutors, contact Prof. Daniela Curioso .
