“Women” solo exhibition by artist Katherine Krizek.
Portraits of women belonging to the project “Do You Know Her?”
Traditional drawing and painting techniques merge with digital technology to create hybrid and colorful images. This exhibition investigates the versatility and power of digital images and their transformations when materialized on paper, fabric and metal. Some prints are one-of-a-kind and others are printed in limited editions.
Curator's critical text
“ARTIS PRAECEPTA RECENTIS / MAIORUM EXEMPLA OSTENDO“ (”I represent the precepts of modern art through the example of the ancients") is a Latin motto of Coppedè but fitting for the portraits of Katherine Krizek, who in arriving at modern digital painting starts from a skillful and refined drawing of Renaissance tradition. Her portraits immortalize women from all continents, often little known, who have distinguished themselves in a variety of fields and disciplines. From art to dance, to civic engagement for the rights of women and their peoples, to the defense of their lands. From China to Iran, from New Zealand to Brazil, from India and Egypt to Kenya and Colombia. They are strong and courageous women because they are inspired by social and humanitarian ideals and values. Katherine Krizek succeeds in capturing their pride in expressions that, through the gaze, penetrate the indomitable soul, capable of struggle and endurance in view of common goals. The strong-willed character emerges powerfully from the chromatic power used by the American artist in a symphony of complementary colors and volumes shaped by chiaroscuro. The artist pays a fitting tribute to women who should be taken as role models by the whole of Humanity, to overcome selfishness and universal conflicts in a better world. - Antonio E.M.
