About the Library
The Temple Rome Library is one of the largest English language libraries in Rome, and one of the finest in the field of study abroad. The library provides an excellent environment for research, study, or for browsing our volumes, that are classified by the Dewey Decimal system.
In addition, we are a branch of the Temple’s (Main Campus) Paley Library, enabling us to offer patrons an extensive network of services and resources to support their educational and research needs. We also provide information about other libraries in Rome.
The Temple University Rome Library supports undergraduate and graduate programs with a collection of approximately 14,000 volumes, 350 subtitled video-films, and a wide selection of periodical and newspaper subscriptions. The collection primarily focuses on architecture, art, art history, business, and the humanities and social sciences. Most of the collection is in English, focused on Italy-related and European subjects.
You can browse our collection in our Temple Online Catalog.
Library Usage Guide
Circulating books can be checked out for two weeks with a 5-book limit; they can be renewed for another two weeks unless they have been put on reserve for a different user. Special agreements for longer renewals in case of mid-terms or for final papers are possible. Reserve books and precious books circulate only in the library area, computer room and entrance lobby for two hours. Circulating movies can be checked out for two days.
Temple Rome Library is also open to outside users. Visitors must check in at the circulation desk every time they visit the library. During the first visit, users will be asked for registration information for our records (i.e. name, academic affiliation, picture ID, and e-mail address). Visitors may use the facilities only in-house and will not be able to check materials out from the library.
During the final exam periods (one week in December, April and July; please call ahead to check dates) the Library is not open to external users. Opening hours are subject to changes during breaks and summer sessions.
