Dear Temple Community,

 

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick D. Murphy as the next Associate Dean of Temple University Rome Campus, effective July 1, 2022.

Patrick brings a wealth of experience to this role. Currently serving as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at Klein College of Media and Communications at Temple University, he is an experienced senior administrator, accomplished researcher, and effective teacher. In the past Patrick served as Chair of the Department of Media Studies and Production at Klein College and Chair of the Department of Mass Communications at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

His research focuses on global media, media and the environment, documentary media, ethnographic method, and Latin American media and cultural theory. He is author of The Media Commons: Globalization and Environmental Discourses (University of Illinois Press, 2017) and winner of International Communication Association, Global Communication and Social Change Division’s Best Book Award, 2018. He has taught courses on Media Ethnography, Media and the Environment, Global Media, Latin American Media, Media, Ecology and Technology.

Patrick has rich and diverse international experience. He was a visiting professor and assistant director at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, Querétaro, Mexico, a Fulbright-Garcia Robles fellow in Mexico, a delegate for the Latin America team of the American Documentary Showcase series, and a visiting professor for the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea program. He further held visiting positions in Cape Town, Ecuador, Ireland, Taiwan, and more.

I look forward to working with Patrick, as we continue to grow and develop our programs and promote Temple University as a leader in global education.
